interesting tidbits about the band.
because no one really knows what "vidoll" means – not even the band, rame says it was made up because it sounded nice – several different romanizations have arised, such as: vidooru, vidoru, v-doll, widor. same band, different ways of spelling it in the western alphabet. the romaji on under code's site is "VIDOLL" and rame has said in an interview that "vidoll" is the correct romaji. vidoll fan yozora has the following to say about this point:
'vidoll' is a play on words. they've done a 'secret' session as a band called "美人形" which if you look at it is a pun on 美人系 (bijinkei) because 形 (katachi=shape) can also be read as 'kei.' and one way to read 美人形 is by combining japanese and english: 美 (bi=beauty) + 人形 (ningyou=doll) = bi-doll...
makes good sense. the band's first european release is also called "bijinkei", which seems to corroborate this theory!
some of vidoll's members, namely jui and tero, have collaborated with kisaki project (kisaki's solo unit). jui was also kisaki project's singer (one of kisaki's in-between music projects before he formed phantasmagoria).
on some of vidoll's lives, rame has a puppet show segment. he is also been known to have done some comical skits. i do suspect that rame is in fact a closet comedian!
the cover art for the second press of "if..." was done by mangaka hayami yoku.
according to glam japan's site owner, tero's cellphone ringtone was at some point the sound of an orgasming girl.
vidoll's first cd's were discretely labelled as "occult romance melody". on the double "if..." maxi-singles though, the prescription notes featured on the covers read: "occult mental clinic" and "romance anaesthesia department". these prescriptions also have scribbled the date of release of the cd's and the address at the bottom of each note is actually under code's information addy and telephone number.
vidoll have been known to perform under the name "vido sea", appearing as:
vocals - jyunichi
guitar - yukizo
guitar - hideran
bass - R
drums - 古矢 (koya/furuya)
basically vido sea is a mock luna sea cover band.
rame has performed as guest vocalist for under code's kisaki & kansai kizoku project.
jui and tero have modelled for shoxx's store.
jui was part of a session band called jurorito, back in 2001, with sakito and ruka (nightmare) and kazuki (arucard). they released a demotape.
jui was, once upon a time, part of a session band called jururito, with sakito and ruka from nightmare and kazuki, who was a nightmare roadie and also arucard's bassist.
under code has released a special cd called "black milky", by kisaki & kansai kizoku. this is one of kisaki's side projects and it features rame.
